If you are thinking of enrolling in an aromatherapy course, whether by correspondence or taking a class - you shouldn’t have to look too far to find a good one in the UK. The practice of aromatherapy has become so popular over the last twenty years or so, that demand, and therefore supply, of aromatherapy related products and courses is quite high.
There are predominantly two different types of courses available: an ‘on-site’ course, where you attend classes and are taught face to face, or a ‘distance learning’ or ‘home study’ course, where you decide when you want to study, and the pace at which you develop your learning. The type of course that you choose depends on the way that you prefer to learn. Some people like to learn alongside fellow students and find that being in a classroom is more conducive to the overall learning process, whilst a lot of students find that a home study course is perfect for their needs, especially if they work during the day, have kids or do not have their own transport and find it difficult to attend classes at set times.
Choosing to study via a correspondence aromatherapy course does not necessarily mean that you will get less support from your tutor or teacher than you would with a regular course. Most distance learning schools now offer immediate support to students, whether via fax, phone or email. Some may even offer an online forum facility where tutors and fellow students can communicate with each other interactively, either on a one-to-one basis or as a group. Many students find that having this resource gives them the sense that they are in a classroom environment, without actually stepping out of their home! If having this facility is important to you, make sure you check with your course provider exactly what the level of support is.
With any aromatherapy course, always check the college or school’s credentials before you part with any money. Ensure that the school regularly updates its course manual so that you are getting the most accurate information possible. Also be sure to check that course materials, for example a starter pack of essential oils, is included in the price of the course.
